Fallout 3 (PS3) Description

Vault 101 - Jewel of the Wastes. For 200 years, Vault 101 has faithfully served the surviving residents of Washington DC and its environs, now known as the Capital Wasteland. Though the global atomic war of 2077 left the US all but destroyed, the residents of Vault 101 enjoy a life free from the constant stress of the outside world. Giant Insects, Raiders, Slavers, and yes, even Super Mutants are all no match for superior Vault-Tec® engineering. Yet one fateful morning, you awake to find that your father has defied the Overseer and left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you've ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father, and the truth.

I was recommended this game to some complete random in the game store about it being the best game he had played for a while and at 24.99 i thought well why not, i like RPGs and first person games so why not. At first it seemed to suck me in i was always playing it, i like the idea of free roaming but it really is free roaming, if you haven't found a location it seems to take forever to get somewhere but i guess thats a good thing because it shows how huge this game is. The missions vary and i like the idea of using bottle tops as money because of how bad the world is, also when trading throughout the game is good, you can kill something get its meat and sell it. I wouldn't recommend the 3rd person view it doesn't play well in my opinion but maybe that works better for some people. The targetting system isn't that great, you can shoot someone straight in the head and they dont die. It takes a while to play through but its definatly worth it, 24.99 well invested if you ask me.

This game is absolutely brill, once you get past the hard start that is. For the first few hours i was getting absolutely anihilated. Once you build up some skills and weaponry this game develops a flow that can suck you in for hours. 1 hour can quickly become 5. You'll keep hearing yourself say "I'll just do this bit." Absolute brilliance.

You've heard of Action RPG's, but this is the definitive Action RPG. I couldnt' get on with the combat in oblivion, but this title it isn't an issue as it's mainly ranged combat. The game looks fantastic and has DLC in the pipeline for the PS3. The story is amazing and really involves you... I did have one probem where I skipped a section of the story because it's completey open up from the offset, and when you get to Level 20 and have found the fabled "alien gun" nothing can touch you. However with the Broken Steel download it raises the level cap to 30 which gives the game a new lease of life. It really is a great game.

A lot of people will probably enjoy this game but I found it very difficult to grasp and very time consuming getting from one place to another.

It's a lot more instantly accesible than Oblivion but lacks the depth. I felt that in Oblivion you could really define your character to the way you play. In Fallout all you really do is find a decent gun and upgrade the stats associated with it accordingly. Not that that's a bad thing, i just rather enjoyed moulding my onscreen counterpart to a spellcasting, maiming ugly killing machine! I played 95% of the game in first person as the character movement looks clunky and unatural in 3rd person. You start out in Vault 101, a kind of shelter from the nuclear war and all the mess/ghouls/super-mutants it's left in its wake. People are born, live and die in these vaults, except you who escapes to face the wasteland outside in search of your Father. It's a great prospect for a game and i think it's very well done. I found myself engrossed in it, not wanting to put it down. It's not quite as good as Oblivion but is still definitly worth a look if you've got the time.
