Resistance 2 (PS3) Description

On the brink of annihilation, mankind resumes the fight against the unstoppable Chimera on the shores of the United States. And thus the stage is set for Resistance 2, the highly anticipated follow-up to Insomniac Games’ best-selling PS3 launch title, developed exclusively for the PlayStation 3 system. Players will once again step into the war-torn boots of Nathan Hale, who not only faces near impossible odds on the battlefield, but also constantly struggles with the Chimeran virus raging inside his own body. In addition to an epic single-player campaign, Resistance 2 will offer a truly unprecedented eight-player, class-based online co-op campaign with a separate, parallel storyline and 60-player online competitive multiplayer built upon a ‘massive battles, greater intimacy’ mantra. Players can also expect a re-designed MyResistance.net featuring social networking tools designed to enhance a user’s gameplay experience whether they’re engaged in single, co-op or competitive combat. Picking up immediately where Resistance: Fall of Man concluded, Resistance 2 follows Hale as he finds himself once more in a world transformed by war and invasion. Undaunted by their defeat in London, the Chimera have continued to advance, now poised to attack the United States. Entire cities have been leveled and communities annihilated. In this war where the odds are so heavily stacked against the human race, few are left who are willing and able to fight. Fortunately, Hale is not alone. A group of super soldiers simply known as the Sentinels will fight alongside Hale as they collectively attempt to thwart the inevitable.

Resistance 2 is a good game. A good example of the FPS genre.... but there are now so many very, very good titles in this area, I feel that Resistance gets lost. The premise for the story is actually really interesting and better than say, Gears of War, in my opinion, but Gears is the far superior, more fun game to play over Resistance. Gears has that little extra something, whereas Resistance just feels like another FPS. A well executed FPS, yes, it ticks all the boxes, but in doing so, it doesn't think to tick anything outside the box to keep it feeling fresh. It's a short review this, because you know this game will have decent graphics and sound (infact, some epic scale graphics at some moments, but that's just visual, not fun and interactive) and that it's gonna be a good game. It's not a GREAT game though, and that's what holds it back. Definitely give this a rent first and if you like it enough, buy it.

The Resistance franchise is not one for story and is one for just runnning and gunning. While the first Resistance did this badly, this one does it almost perfectly. The campaign is epic which leaves you clinging on untill the end, and possibly one of the best shooting campaigns I have ever played. Ontop of this Resistance 2 has a fantastic multiplayer with an option of co op for 8 people or 60 player competative online. If you like shooters I have no idea what else you could want.

Feels much like the first game with a couple more new guns. I found the story a bit of a slog to get through, only playing it because i can't start a game and not finish it. Nothing really exciting and your character (Nathan Hale) seems to get weaker as the game progresses, only needing one or two shots before he dies accompanied with an awful bit of music! This is either because Hale is slowly succumbing the Chimeran virus or a way for the developers to give the game a little more longevity. It got a little challenging towards the end, but not in a good way. I didn't really have the 'one more go' attitude like so many other tough moments in games. It was the online what i found a whole lot of fun! you can either play against human players or choose to play in a team in one of the games purpose made online co-op missions. These are fantastic, you have the option to be medic, special ops and soldier. Each one needing the other to survive. Makes it feel like a team effort and you mow down hordes of enemies. You can advance in each class offering up better perks, guns and armour that makes the game even more enjoyable. You can even have a friend pick up a pad and play along with you. I only wish there were more co-op missions, but to max out your character and to get all the intel documents will take hours. Boring Single player but fantastic online multiplayer makes it stand out

This is a great game, Nice graphics, Nice weapons, AI ok, Characters ok, Story ok, but I was hoping it was going to be so much better. It's better than the original but that game came out with the release of the ps3 a couple of years ago, and if you look at what guerilla have accomplished with Killzone 2 you begin to wonder if Insomniac are dedicating more of their time and resources with their Ratchet & Clank games??.

A superb game which clearly is a cut above the original. Crisper graphics, a more intense and involved storyline and superb voice acting and relationships between your shipmates. A well dereved 5 out of 5!
