Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe (PS3) Description

Midway wanted some super-heroes. The Capcom characters have already faced off against the heroes of the Marvel Universe, now its the turn of the Mortal Kombat guys, and they get the heroes that started it all - the inhabitants of the DC Universe. That's right, it's all-out bloody carnage as the likes of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman square up against legendary, seasoned fighters such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Sonya Blade. First up, you're probably wondering how the bloomin' heck a more or less normal woman like Sonya is meant to face up against a Man of Steel. Well, as you might imagine from the fact the two worlds have collided, there's some dark mojo at work, and that's served to level the playing field somewhat. You also might be worried about whether, in a game populated by bright, costumed heroes, the brutal characters of Mortal Kombat will keep their fatalities. In short, they will. While you can still watch Scorpion burn his foes to a crisp, the DC characters come with their own brutalities, such as Superman turning his might to pounding an opponent into the floor, neatly sidestepping a move that actually kills. The game comes with new fighting mechanics, such as Klose Kombat, an intense fighting experience that shows progressive damage being doled out, and Freefall Kombat, which enables players to do battle in mid-air as they fall from one arena to the next. And don't worry folks, Midway wouldn't let the fight of the new century pass without allowing you to duke it out online!

As far as beat em ups go I enjoyed this for a rent. The idea of a crossover is a fresh change especially for mortal kombat and dc. They are totally different from each other in a good way. The graphics are good and the game play is fairly smooth. After a bit of practice you can pull of a few combos easily. There are 22 fighters to choose from overall. There’s also a couple of modes to try as well adding some variety. The story mode is good adding depth to the game. Once completed you can also play online and complete the combo challenges. Unless you’re a big fan of dc or mortal kombat I can only recommend this as a rent 1st as its good but not great.

This a good return for the MK series - despite the lack of blood and gore, which was obviously held back to keep the DC licence happy. The character models look excellent, particularly the DC ones, and they all animate very nicely with some swish fighting moves. The sounds are also nice, with suitably heavy punch and kick cracks... perhaps some "sock", "whap" or "biff" signs would have been appropriate, given the lack of blood? It was just an idea..... I would heartily recommend this game to anyone with even a passing interest in MK or the DC universe - you'll find a lot to like here. The game is far from perfect, but it's also nowhere near an awful title, which was surprising.

Im not a big fighting game fan, but I had a blast on Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe. It is no where near the best fighting game I have played, and if you are expecting Mortal Kombat brutality then look elsewhere, but the game is just good simple fun. Single player (as with most fighting games it seems) is pretty pants, but get some mates round and you wont need another game for a long time. Single player is 2/5 but mp is a good 4/5. Had more fun on this over Street Fighter and Soul Caliber 4...

As a fan of Mortal Kombat games I thought this addition was great. I like the idea of cuts and bruises appearing during combat and the introduction of DC characters is welcomed. It's also good that the Mortal Kombat characters fatalities are easier to perform than in previous versions and the DC characters have there own Brutalities. The story mode is also good but in my opinion too short, with 2 stories, 1 for MK and 1 for DC. The Arcade mode is challenging even on easy, i don't think I would stand a chance on very hard. Aswell as the Arcade mode and Story mode there is also a Kombat challenge mode which helps you perfect those combos. Achievements are fairly easy for this game. Overall i gave it 4 stars because I am a fan of the Mortal Kombat series but can understand some peoples opinion of this game to be low. Still I like it and think it's a decent Mortal Kombat title.

I've always been more of a Marvel fan, finding the humor and characters to be more interesting than their DC counterparts. Flash always looked rediculous and Green Lantern was way too powerful. So since the Street Fighters decided to fight the Marvels, it only makes sense to have the MK Universe clash with the DC one. However, it's a shameless, poor mix. Mortal Kombat is all about beating pints of blood out of the oponent before ripping off an apendage. But thanks to DC it's all been toned down. I was looking forward to killing batman as the Joker, but alas, that wasn't to be. The usually solid fighting mechanics of MK, were no where to be seen and the learning curve isn't even there, it's straight to the top, you better have seen a manual or looked at some special moves because this game doesn't mess around. You'll be picking your teeth out of the gutter before you know it. All in all this game sucks as a fighter, if you're a big DC fan you may enjoy this and the story, to me it felt shallower than Batman's pits. The PS3 version does have better controls I found, but still sucks more than a Dyson on high.
