Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (PS3) Description

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort’s defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn't counted on Romilda Vane’s chocolates! And then there’s Hermione, simmering with jealously but determined not to show her feelings. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again. In the game of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, players will return to Hogwarts to help Harry survive a fraught sixth year. They will also have a chance to engage in exciting wizard duels, mix and brew magical ingredients in Potions class and take to the air to lead the Gryffindor Quidditch team to victory. Players may even get sidetracked by Ron’s romantic entanglements as they journey towards a dramatic climax and discover the identity of the Half-Blood Prince.

This game is really enjoyable as all the Harry Potter games so far have been. It's a fairly straight forward game which doesn't take long to get through the storymode. The whole game is basically made up of making potions which is good fun, playing a quidditch and lots of duelling with other students and death eaters. There are loads of extras to get involved in including a potions club and duelling club to enhance your skills and gain lots of achievements. Also theres' the challenge of locating all the crests located all throughout Hogwarts. Overall 4/5

I have always enjoyed the Potter games and I think that this is no exception. The graphics are the best so far and the story sticks closely to the film and book. The mini games like quidditch and potion making are very satisfying and you receive trophies for completing them. The voice acting isn't great and the story mode is quite short, only taking a few hours to complete so I wouldn't spend £40 on it. Nevertheless it is a great little game to rent.

Another movie tie in, but this one isn't too bad. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood prince is a good little magic based game. The controls are quite tight and the graphics are the best in the series so far. Where as the other harry potter games haven't really lived up to the hype, this one I am glad to say does provide a lot for us muggles and sticks close to the film.

I am not afraid to admit it, I love the Harry Potter books (not so much the films), and just as the book was, this game is by far the best game in the series. Now, while this game series will never be considered great, it is good fun to distract you from the major releases. EA have spent a lot of time on graphics and there are many new features over the past games. It is short so dont spend £40 on it, but if you have any kids they will have a blast on it, and so will you!

The Harry Potter video games should complement the other media, providing gleeful interaction to match the excellent story from the books and the visual splendor of the films. But Half-Blood Prince isn't much fun to play once you've gotten a taste of the few simple activities. The game is ultimately a forgettable experience, pushing players through the same three minigames over and over again, without ever capturing the thrill of being a wizard. The story lacks focus and is difficult to follow, giving players only the faintest motivation to continue on before it finally ends on an emotionless, anticlimactic note. The Half-Blood Prince squanders its impressive license; you're better off reading the book again.
