Prototype or inFamous? That was a question on lots of our lips at the beginning of summer this year. Well, my own personal answer was this - Prototype. Taking the ever popular sandbox formula and adding a dark bloody twist to it, this is a visceral game that takes you on a brooding journey of revenge. I liked to think of it as God of War set it a modern city.... yes - that level of blood and violence and over the top kills is what you can expect from this game. Good as inFamous was, it didn't cater to my own personal gaming bloodthirst, so Prototype was the clear winner for me. There are sufficient character upgrades and progression to stop the blood letting from getting repetitive. The web of intrigue missions that have you take on someone elses persona to infiltrate areas or evade capture are all inspired, and the way you find these targets is equally as fun. You can find them as blips on your local radar as you approach an area they're near, and then you can either morph into a nobody, walk right up to them and then silently absorb them, or you can just go the no messing approach and chase them down and rip them to shreds before absorbing them. Nice. And lots of fun. You'll find plenty of side missions which are typical in their aim at capturing control and influence over different areas of the city, and with nicely varied aims keeping it mixed up, I never got bored. The constant upgrading of your character is also very pleasing, watching his powers gradually become monstrously strong, and with suitably increasingly difficult enemies to kill too, absorbing some of the powers and keeping you on your toes. You'll likely die a few times playing this, with no major detriment, and always feeling like it was because you sucked and the enemy were better, which is how it should be. Overall, I would very strongly recommend giving this game a try. It was my favourite over inFamous which was also an awesome sandbox game.

This game is great if you just want to smash anything up, you play Alex who is close to invincible. He can jump off buildings and not die, he is fast, powerfull and has the ability to consume people. When I played the this for the first time it looked disappointing, all you were doing was fighting repetivly with monsters and I thought it would be like this all the way through. How wrong I was, after the opening level you go back to when you first infected and have to learn your powers from scratch. The missions are really good and you also have the chance of free roaming. You also have the ability to consume any person in the game even civilians, you consume them and can morph into them which is good for evading the military. All in all i gave this 4 stars, it's a really good action game but I still feel it lacks something. Definatly worth renting but you have to give it time i feel. First impressions may put you off but play through it and it will get interesting.

I was looking forward to this game, but the more I saw, the more I was put off. The graphics looked bland, the gameplay seemed shallow and the controls seemed like they wouldent work with the amount of stuff you can do. I was partially right on all of these points. The graphics are bland however not too bad, the gameplay is shallow but also pretty fun for a while (until you do the same thing over and over again ala Assains Creed) and the controls work well until you have to use any powers... (which is a main part of the game) It is not a bad game, just not a good game. Also there are a limited number of charactor models (which is empahsised by one of the abilities that lets you shapeshift into a consumed charactor) Feels like a past gen experiance.

This game is like marmite you will either love it or hate it. Unfortunately for me mine was the latter. After playing infamous which is awesome, and then seeing this with it's low res graphics was very disapointing. Yet again another game that feels unpolished and rushed out. The animation as you run through the city and up buildings just looks poor to me?. The sound effects while doing so sounds awful. The weapons you pick up off enemies feel weak, and the missions feel repetitve. Go here, go there dismember 50 or so goons and then continue. The lock on system could be better. The story's a cure for insomnia, and the amount of fun I had, which was little became old very fast. I must apologise, because like I said some will love it. But me? infamous is far superior, far more polished, and far more exciting..........
