Dead Space (PS3) Description

What happens when the world's biggest third-party publisher wants to do something different? Wants to break its own mould and tread new ground, away from the licenses and the tie-ins that have marked its history? Dead Space is what happens, an epic sci-fi title twisted into a disturbing survival horror title that will leave you longing for daylight to come. EA isn't messing about, either. Expect a splatter-fest, replete with severed limbs, physical abominations and enough gore to grease up a herd of elephants. Comic writers Warren Ellis and Anthony Johnson were brought on board for a story that sees Isaac Clark (named after Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clark) battling through the wreckage of the mining ship Ishimura to uncover what's happened to his shipmates and do his darndest to stay alive. Dead Space features a range of weapons that you'll really need to get to grips with if you want to survive. Winning isn't just about putting as many bullets as you can into the nasties you face: it's about tactical dismemberment - picking off the bits that the monsters need to survive. The other stand-out element of Dead Space is zero gravity combat. In certain sections you'll be thrust into an environment where there's nothing to hold you down, enabling a wealth of zero-G puzzles. Just don't turn off the lights while you play...

After playing the demo to this i wasn't really impressed however when the offer of 14.99 for it came up i decided to invest and im so glad i did. This game has to be one of the best games i've played. Never have i jumped so much playing a game, when you least expect it aswell. I was hooked from start to finish, great storyline with a twist towards the end make this game legondary in the games hall of fame. Well done EA for making this excellent game. I only hope there is a sequel to this and next time i won't hesitate paying full price. If I had payed 39.99 for this game i still wouldn't be dissapointed. This game is absolutley faultless.

A truly brilliant game. The story begins to suck you in from the first cut scene and carry on from there. You begin as the engineer on a simple call out to a distress call, but soon you are isolated from your team and have to begin fighting you way through the huge ship you are called to. The games best selling point is the fear and shock factor as you can very quickly go from quietly walkiing through a corridoor to fiercely shooting a horde of alien enemies. Another great thing about this game is the way you fight the enemies. Never before have I seen a game where you aim to kill enemies by shooting their limbs off such as you do in this game, and with every lost limb the enemy will still find a way to attack you, making it feel like a very real survival game. Another great part of the game is the boss battles. The bosses in this game are very varied and you can have great fun beating them with different weapons etc. Finally the strategy of this game involves how you choose to upgrade your weapons and purchase new weapons. You continually collect credits (the currency) and occasionally power nodes and schematics. The credits are used to buy items (such as weapons, armour and ammo) from the store, whereas the schematics give you new choices of items to buy, and the power nodes allow you to upgrade your existing items meaning you can tailor fit your gear to suit your play style. Pros: Great selection of weapons Fun trophies Cool bosses Fear factor Good graphics Intense gameplay Believable story Upgradeable Cons: Limited number of enemy models Very dark contrast

I have to agree with the 2 other reviewers and say that the games graphics and overall feel is excellent however I do have one criticism of the game. It can sometimes get a little repetitive. That said, some of the big scenes in the game are stunning and make it all worth while. Highly recommended!
