Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (PS3) Description

Have you ever wanted to be a secret Sith apprentice, hunting down the last remnants of the Jedi order for Darth Vader as you hone your skills with the Force? That's the basic premise of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed from Lucas Arts, a game that will give you more control over the Force than any other game before it. Set between the movie trilogies and created in collaboration with both George Lucas and Industrial Light and Magic, the game will take you from one end of the Star Wars galaxy to the other in your quest. You will have access to four Force powers - push, grip, repulse and lightning - that will enable you to destroy anybody or anything that stands in your way. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed uses new and exciting technology to make your game more involving. Physical objects react as you would expect them to; dropping, breaking and blowing up in a natural way. In addition, humans and other creatures react to events around them in dynamic, non-scripted ways that mean that no two games will play exactly the same. Also, you will be able to change the path of the story by decisions you make during the game, creating multiple endings that promise to reveal surprising twists in the Star Wars continuity. The secret apprentice will be accompanied in his adventure by a droid companion called PROXY and an Imperial pilot cadet called Juno Eclipse who pilots your starship, the Rogue Shadow, and with whom the apprentice will have a love interest during the course of the story. The game of The Force Unleashed is one part of a multimedia project that encompasses a novel, a graphic novel, a set of miniature figures, a reference book, a line of collectible toys and an expansion to the Star Wars role-playing game.

Force Unleashed is about the best 3rd person Star Wars action game to come out since Shadows of the Empire on the Nintendo 64 (putting the Battlefront games aside). If you are a Star Wars fan, then you have probably already played this and know it. But you don't have to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy it at all - it is a legitimately fun and engaging game, with one of the best storylines I've ever encountered in a Star Wars game. The graphics really are a sight to behold almost the entire way through the game... there's the odd environment that has a couple of grubby textures, but they're few and far between. The game cleverly disguises it's linear fashion by having some lovely open spaced environments running right by the areas you can actually advance through, so although it's often a case of get from point A to point B by one single route, you don't feel like you're being funnelled down there. The sounds are what you want and expect from a Star Wars game. Lightsaber crackles and sparks, blaster fire, swells of John William's orchestral score - it's all there, and it's all awesome, really immersing you into the experience. The physics effects in the game are cleverly implemented, with you able to use your force powers to literally bend and mold parts of the scenery to your bidding. Once particularly fun part was bending a girder out into the path of a flying Tie-fighter and watching it smash into oblivion. There will be areas where you have to bend and smash your way through doors and other obstacles, and it's a good way of making you use these force powers other than just to smash people to pieces. However - smashing people to pieces with the force powers and your lightsaber is probably where the real fun lies. Being able to pick someone up with force grip and then throw them, electrocute, butcher them with your lightsaber, is an awful lot of fun... I lost count of the number of wookies I threw to their oblivion off of a very high edge. Heh - awesome. You will find that your character (Starkiller) will pick up some progressively much more powerful upgrades to each of his powers, as well as finding some new ones, so you get a nice character prorgression leading up until the end of the game. Overall, Force Unleashed is easy to recommend to Star Wars and action game fans alike. It has great graphics, fun gameplay and a great story to flesh it all out. Very highly recommended.

When I started playing the first level I was a little disappointed. Hack and Slash and no variety. But I persevered. Once you get one or two force powers the game came to life and I really enjoyed it. And once the story line starts rolling its quite compelling. Good game, great ending which really makes it feel part of the star wars story line. Excellent Rental

I rented this after all of my mates were raving about it, and I did really really want to like it, however it tries so hard to make me hate it! Everything about it I hated. The boring hack and slash gameplay with no varity. AHHH. The way the devs raved on about the engine, however it is very basic and nothing special and the story was so lackluster. I guess the main thing is that with nearly all star wars games, you have a lightsaber which cuts through anything with one slice, however in the games it is asif you are using a woodern bat. A game with 0 fun factor for me.

I thought this was quiet good , apart from the save game which is a pain in the neck. The graphics are okay and the sound is excellent. Some parts are a real pain as you have to replay them numerous times ... overall score 3
