OK, so I'm going to try and review this as an actual game, and not necessarily as a Ghostbuster super fan..... well, I'll try(!) Lets start with the basic and main point - the game is definitely good and worthy of a place as a bought title in many a collection. There are certainly those who will feel that a rent would have been more appropriate though... As a kid born in 1980, Ghostbusters were an obsession for me growing up, and I can't quite stress how much I've always wanted to weild a proton pack, catch a slimer and look Stay-Puft right in the eye.... and this game lets me do all that and more... from that point of view, this game is an absolute triumph... I mean it. Anyone who has even a passing interest in throwing a proton stream around a ghoul will spend the first 2-3 hours of this game in an absolute state of nirvana, particularly your first ghost. I'm 28, very nearly 29 years old, and for that first ghost trapping I was 4 again... I'm not just saying this, but it nearly brought a tear to the eye. It's like realising a childhood ambition to ride in a ferrari, or visit a particular country etc.... However, and this is where some negativity has to start I'm afraid. If I can turn off the fact that I'm 4 years old again and just look at this game without the Ghostbusters label on it, then it's quite a simple and repetitive affair, and had any game been available that was indeed the same game without the Ghostbusters name, I suspect I would be saying much harsher things about it. But hey, it IS Ghostbusters and this does save it. Somewhat. One of the many problems I found, and this may surprise some, was actually it's UNoriginality... let me explain. This game was touted, effectively, as Ghostbusters 3. The continuation of the first 2 movies.... well if that's the case, then the 3rd movie sucks I'm afraid.... The story for the vast majority is the favourite moments and enemies from the original ghostbusters replayed for us to relive those classic moments.... and whilst this is indeed fun, and again, one of those things that gives you the "always wanted to do that" feeling all over, it is a bit of a disappointment when I thought I was getting a whole new Ghostbusters story/film rolled into a game. Put it this way, if they released a film of this game as Ghostbusters 3, it wouldn't just have been panned, but it would make a laughing stock of the fans as it would just be replaying Ghostbusters 1 with some fancier, modern effects..... and that's what I mean about unoriginal. As funny as some of the scripted moments are in this game, you can't escape that fact that almost every locale and main enemy is ripped from the classic moments of the original films.... so maybe it was just a lie that this is Ghostbusters 3, and that's what disappoints me most, as it was one of the things that was talked up about the game. Ghostbusters 3 - this isn't. But a Ghostbusters game that lets you do all those crazy things you'd always imagined, it is.... and if it had been said it was this all along, I wouldn't have been so disappointed about the story. The voice acting for the most part is excellent, although surprisingly, the guy you want to work most and be the funniest, Murray as Venkman, sounds quite uninterested much of the time... as the GS reviewer said, many of his lines felt "phoned in" which is a shame. Akroyd is hilarious, as is Ramis and actually, Annie Potts as the nasally, irritable Janine is fantastic too... there's a lot to like in the general script for fans and newcomers alike. The rest of the sounds, from the powerup noises of your proton pack, to the carefully picked selection of music tracks and samples from the films will help keep you immersed in that fan experience. The graphics are excellent too and run at a lovely smooth rate. I didn't see any slowdown or laggy frame rates. Whether you're burning Stay Puft from above or tackling multiple spooks in The Sedgwick (which was my favourite section by the way) everything looks as you'd expect - hell, better than you'd imagined a game like this as a kid... Although some of the graphics and animation for the character models is a bit stiff for the main actors, you on the other hand as the silent rookie seem to have the best part in this area, with plenty of slapstick eye rolls and nervous smiles to the camera... it's surprising how alive they've made your rookie character feel, even though he never says a word. Now that's quite a triumph, being able to convey comedy with a few well timed glances from your character and I give full marks to the developers for this. Multiplayer is an absolute blast and is probably the element that raises this game from a low 7 to an 8+ for me... if it wasn't enough to let you be a 4 year old again in the story, you get to do it with friends too, which is always fun. I'll admit I'm not a massive online multiplayer fan, but what I have played of this online was massive fun and will certainly bring me back for more. The length of the single player is quite short, even though it's a blast, so the Multiplayer helps keep the value of the product sweet. Overall, Ghostbusters is really a great product and a refreshing relief as it could so easily have been awful. If only they hadn't touted it as Ghostbusters 3, then I wouldn't have been so disappointed with the story - but don't let that make you think that the story is bad.... for a videogame, it's great fun and helps suck you into that "always wanted to do that as a kid" vibe... infact, I think if they hadn't replayed some moments from the first two films in game playable form, some fans would have been let down, me included.... I just felt that with the promise of it being Ghostbusters 3, that we were going to see some very swish new story, perhaps even as a pre-empt to a possible PROPER Ghostbusters 3 movie... but hey, I'm dreaming now. So if you've ever wanted to weild a proton stream as a kid, then this game is a certain buy for you... you will find the odd niggle and disappointment here and there, but for the most part, you will be very happy with your purchase. If your somehow one of those people who never liked (or even knew about) Ghostbusters, rent it first and see if you like it, as the nostalgia may be lost on you, and you could be left with, what is technically quite a short, repetitive game.

Its an ok game.Casual mode will let you breeze through the story with little problems.the harder modes are a bit more frustating as you will spend alot of time on the deck waiting to be revived or reviving your AI ghostbusting teammates which does detract from the fun a little for me.The humour is all there and it is an enjoyable game no doubt. Overall, a good rental only as it does have some minor gameplay issues.
