Originally known as Ozzy's Black Skies, this game was supposed to feature none other than the legendary rock god Ozzy Osbourne. Alas, things didn't work out for some reason or another, but Savage Skies is still essentially the same flying dragon-based shoot-em-up - the only difference being that there's no longer a Brummie metalhead mounted atop the creatures.
The game itself is dubbed as a creature-based action game and is set in a fantasy world where a war is being waged between three factions vying for total power. Taking control of any one of a number of powerful beasts of war, players enter into high-intensity creature combat, which features action-orientated flight and combat systems.
A host of dragons, demons, unicorns, and other mythical denizens inhabit the game, each one having their own strengths, weaknesses, unique combat moves and arsenal of weapons. You can pilot Oculus and snipe out the enemy from long range or choose Rohn, the ice dragon, and close in to send the enemy to a frigid grave.
There are over 27 unique playable missions throughout the game, including such objectives as offensive onslaughts, sabotage attacks, racing, and defensive engagements. Along the way, successful progress can lead to the unlocking of up to 24 creatures, seven multiplayer levels, alternate versions, and plenty of hidden gameplay modes.
So, Ozzy or no Ozzy, there's still plenty to keep you occupied in Savage Skies. Whether or not the game would have been much cooler with the added rock star we'll never know. But we think it probably would.
