Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (PS3) Description

It's time to once again battle terrorists at the heart of the American dream - Vegas, baby! Terrorists are on the move in Sin City and it's up to you to do them in. Many an improvement has been made on the original game to keep your inner tactical shootist happy. First up is multi-player. There's more of it. Specifically, there are 13 new maps to creep around and shoot your way through. Ubi's also delivered a couple of new adversarial modes, more rewards than before and easier access to matches using the game's matchmaking system. That brings us nicely on to the game's co-op mode. This time around, a second player will be able to jump into the fray at any time. In fact, the single-player maps and story were put together with just this in mind, so the whole experience ought to be smooth as a (insert reference that won't get us into trouble here). Ubisoft has also cranked up the AI a notch, fitting out the enemies of freedom with thermal vision, night vision and shields. No doing the terrorist-type thing with a spork for these guys, oh no. It wouldn't be much of a sequel if it didn't sport new weapons and gear for the player to use too, would it? Ubisoft has obliged. 11 new weapons have been thrown in, along with new camouflage, clothing and gear. You'll be able to chuck that onto a character that persists through both single and multi-player modes. With all that persistence, you'll be able to enjoy the benefits of your single player rewards in multi-player and vice versa.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is an excellent, if sadly overlooked, FPS. With the first one being released around the same time as the first Gears of War, they can't help but be compared due to the interesting cover mechanics they shared and introduced to the genre. However, whereas Gears was a 3rd person perspective, the Rainbow Six series has decided to have a predominantly 1st person view, with a 3rd person view being used for some shots like blowing through doors, cover around corners etc. It works very well, giving you the best of both views to assist you in taking down your assailants. And there are plenty of those. The enemy is fairly smart actually (not quite up to the standards of Killzone 2, but then that game came a lot later...) and will soon make mincemeat of you if you're not on your toes. They will flank and use cover to the best of their advantage for the most part, with just the occasional crook getting confused when you're firing down from an upper level and being taken a little too easily. The AI of your squad members is also of around equal par, with really only the occasional annoying placement of one of them when you want to stand where they are. The excellent AI certainly helps absorb you in the action, and the single player is so engaging, you may find it hard to put it down to enjoy the multiplayer for a while. But oh, you should - because the multiplayer is nothing short of excellent. The encounters online are often frenetic and hard - but this is good, because you'll soon become a very proficient killer yourself by dying so often. The game is certainly fun enough to keep you coming back in the early days of dying so much, so that says a lot. Whilst this is by no means the best FPS game available, it is definitely one that any FPS fan should have in their collection.

Read a lot of negative reviews for this game. Do not agree at all. Thought the graphics were good, better than the previous release. This game had plenty of new moves including being able to repel upside down and shoot at the same time. Only drawback was that it could have been a bit longer. The last couple of levels were a bit short. Overal I enjoyed playing this game and would recommend it to others.

I loved the first Rainbow Six Vegas, so was appauled when I played the sequel. It's unfinished, the AI of your team mates is rediculous. It takes away from the immersion, when my team who have just flashbanged a room and taken out a bunch of terrorists refuse to follow me because they are stuck behind a cone, that had to be shot out of the way for them to move. The story's not great either, but the multiplayer is the only thing that saves this game from being a total waste of time and money, the terrorist hunt is always good fun, but not enough to warrant a full game. Poor, play the first instead.

very similar to the first game and thats no bad thing. graphics are good and gameplay is the same old tried and tested tom clancy we've all grown to love. character customisation is excellent and you'll hardly ever see a player dressed exactly like you. A decent exp. system is incorporated in the game which lets you earn exp. for your character online and offline. The story mode is nothing special, terrorists are in full force and only you can stop them, multiplayer is decent enough without being revolutionary and that is the games biggest fault. it's nothing special. if you've played the first game you'll feel a tad let down by this installment but that said what you have here is a good solid shooter that is worth a play.

Better than the 1st but at the same time nearly identical. Just an expansion pack that fixes some things and includes a new XP system.
