Turok (PS3) Description

An ex-member of Wolf Pack, the most ruthless Black Ops squad around, Joseph Turok is charged with capturing and detaining his former colleague and mentor Roland Kane from his fortress on a backwater planet. Trouble is, this planet has been genetically altered, and after Turok's ship is shot down on approaching the planet, he has to use every ounce of nous and bravery to evade the armies of highly-trained soldiers in the first place. The massive insects and myriad ravenous dinosaurs have to be dealt with too! Sure enough, Turok for 2008 comes with a single-player option dubbed Story Mode, but the game also boasts fantastic online multiplayer features with a selection of modes and maps for between 2 and 16 players. There are 10 multiplayer maps in all, including seven competitive maps and three cooperative-specific missions. Competitive multiplayer modes include Capture the Flag, Assault-style Capture the Flag, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and War Games, a special objective-based game mode. Turok's co-op feature allows up to four players to team up online in maps inspired by the single-player story but designed specifically for the co-op mode. Unique to Turok, and like the game's single-player campaign, the multiplayer modes include dinosaurs and large insects, which may attack any player and can be lured to attack opponents. The game is powered by the much-admired Unreal Technology software, thus making it a first-person shooter with great pedigree and no little style. It may be light on the bad language, and not too bloody and gory, but there's plenty of ultraviolence on offer in Turok. If you harbour a dislike for dinosaurs, genuinely smart soldiers and huge insects, fall in line with 2008's Turok.

What have you done to one of my favourite franchises!? I loved the original series on the N64 - there was only Goldeneye on that system that I played more than Turok. But this latest outing? It's abhorrent... an absolute shadow of it's former self. Not even the graphics are decent, and in this day and age, that is completely and utterly unforgivable. If your game sucks - AT THE VERY LEAST - it should have decent graphics. But this doesn't. The AI is shabby, and the level structure and environments are just boring as hell. Really, how did it come to this? Who did this to my beloved Turok!? You deserve nothing more than a place in gaming hell, along with this game.

I have had bad experiances with Turok games. The first one I went to buy was Turok 2 on the n64. I was given Turok on the GB and when I went back they refused to give me the proper copy, so I played it on the GB and at that moment it broke. Then I left it for a while having no want to play, until I saw a gamecube one for £5 and when I got home, it didnt work and again, no refund. However, all of these experiances are better than playing this game. Dire. The online was ok for a few matches I guess, but that is it. Not worth anyones time.

I'lll keep this short and sweet. The dinosaur fighting is fun, and although the gane uses raptor variations a little too often, spectacular knife kills never get old. HOWEVER, far too often you are asked to fight generic 'soldiers' which have no personality and repeat the same few lines over and over again. For too long in this game you fight down grey corridors against generic enemies when you should be fighting what makes this game different in the first place, dinosaurs. Graphics are sub-par, the control system is a bit weird, oh and the difficulty will surprise people coming from the likes of COD4 and Resistance. Its pretty unforgiving. Overall a below average shooter that spectacularly fails to realise what its main selling point is. Oh, and the story is TERRIBLE. Big burly space marines shot down over a planet with 'genetic modification' causing dinosaurs to appear. Yawn.

A good game if you like 3rd person shooters but if you're looking for story lines, puzzles and more you should avoid it. It's just basically running around shooting enemies and dinosaurs and it's certainly nothing we havent seen before.

Very Disappointing Shooter. Looked impressive on a trailer I saw but when it comes to playing the game it's a different story altogether. Avoid at all costs. Run, Shoot, Pick up Ammo, Run, Pick up alternative weapon, Shoot etc. No map feature either. Very irritating. Glad I rented it and didn't buy it.
