Mercenaries 2 World in Flames (PS3) Description

The follow-up to Pandemic's explosive Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames switches the focus of chaos from wartorn Korea to equally wartorn Venezuela, and reacquaints the player with 'Mercs' Chris Jacobs, Jennifer Mui and Mattias Nilsson (that's him staring menacingly out from the game sleeve, chewing on a grenade pin). Hired by Ramon Solano - the richest man in Venezuela - you fight your way onto an island where the leader of the Venezuelan Army, General Carmona, is being held against his will. Once liberated, he joins forces with Solano, and the twosome conspires to overthrow the government…but not before trying to kill you. People try to kill you all the time: it's all part of the job, but Solano didn't pay you, and a mercenary always gets paid. He declares himself President, while you declare that you will get your money or get your revenge, even if it means blowing up the whole country. If you can't wait for Bonfire night, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is enough to blow you away right now. On the other hand, if you're reading this after the last firework has fizzled out and you want some more explosive action, you know what to do.

I have no idea how many times I have written this on reviews, but it is the sad truth. The game is a shadow of its former self. The 1st one is so much better that this feels like a cheap knock off.

Definately a good rental game this one - I thoroughly enjoyed the first few hours, but got a little bored in the end so I'm glad I rented and not bought. The semi-open world structure is nice, graphics are good, if not excellent, and I enjoyed the freedom to use various vehicles including tanks, as well as decent destructible buildings and scenary - air strikes are a cool way of taking out buildings for example and the physics seemed decent to me. The backstory is general video-game fayre, not particularly engrossing, but OK for what it is. I did notice a couple of annoying bugs, the occasional floating crate, a boat with a tendancy to drive across land, and some really bad AI where enemies just stand there looking at you - but not anything to spoil the enjoyment. Overall I'd say better than average, a good time to be hand blowing things up. I didn't try the online mode, and only played approx. 50% of the way through before I got bored. Would probebly warrant more attention if it hadn't been for Xmas presents!!

This games got more bugs than a 75 year old mattress. The graphics are poor for ps3 standards and the game play is boring and repetative. It's a game thats been half completed and rushed out to get some income in......
