Warhawk (PS3) Description

Although it's named after the PSone game – featuring derring-do – you should not confuse Warhawk's mix of online, multi-player, third-person, shootin', flyin', grenadin' fun with anything old-gen. Don't confuse it with being a single-player experience either – it's not. Warhawk has to be played either on four-player, split-screen locally, or with up to 32 players online. You can even set your own PS3 up as a server, leaving you to control the maps, the map rotations, elements such as spawning times, death match, team death match, capture the flag and other combat features. Developer Incognito has taken the idea of rushing around rich landscapes and blowing the living hell out of the opposition to a logical and immensely immersive and, most of all, fun conclusion. From jeeps to the airborne Warhawk planes themselves, everything is easy to get the hang of. The vehicles – all of which can transport you and your colleagues into the pits of hellish fighting – are not the whole of it, though. You've got a range of weapons, including rocket launchers, sniper rifles, mines, flame throwers and a horrendously effective B.F. Knife to master. Get yourself a Blue Tooth or USB headset and you can also communicate with your comrades in arms as you battle across a variety of landscapes, earning points and – if you're on a Ranking Server – levelling up. Combining intense combat action with community (read: Clan) features, Warhawk manages to get really push the PlayStation 3 online.

Hands down, Warhawk is by far the best game on the ps3, even the 1 v 1 is fantastic. There is no lag, amazing graphics and a battlefield style online formula, and all of that adds up to a fantastic game. DO NOT GET THIS IF YOU HAVE NO ONLINE OR ONLY ONE CONTROLLER though because as for as I can see there is no single player to speak of, however that is not a problem if you want somewhere to pick up skills as the controls are simple and if you have played any other shooter you will be fine. Only major problem is as it is on the ps3, no one talks... Only one small problem that is not in the hands of the devs. If you need a reason to get a ps3, this is it.

Warhawk is a game that punishes new players and rewards people who've played it since day one. However, it only takes a couple of matches before you'll be able to hold your own. I found just jumping into a match daunting, but after playing each tutorial I went back to it and found myself doing a lot better. The great thing about Warhawk is the community, this game will be going on forever, as Sony have a Warhawk Wednesday event, which encourages people to play it. It's a lot like Battlefield, but more sci-fi and with a quicker pace. I find that you can easily get out-manouvered in Warhawks by pros of the game, but if you stick to land based assaults you'll do much better and live for sometime. It's pretty essential you have a mic for this game as it can be used to relay orders and ask for help depending on your group dynamic. Graphically it's not the best looking game on the system but it does well. There are several expansions for Warhawk that can be downloaded and open up some new interesting paths like having jet-packs. Rent this and you may see me on a wednesday :D

At first, I didnt like this game and I found it really hard to get used to. But it grew on me and I started to like it, especialy flying around shooting down helpless soldiers running for shelter, and sneaking around in enemy territory with a knife, ready to backstab any unsuspecting soldiers wondering around trying to find an unoccupied warhawk to hop into. But I gets boring after about a week or two. I would reccomend renting, but I woud'nt buy it.

Awfully designed concept. From what I gather there is no means whatsoever of honing your skills in a single player campaign. Instead you recieve some incredibly brief 'training' and told to go online where you could be playing against beginers such as yourself or absolute veterans. Would definately not recommend.
