Big Brain Academy (BBA) offers a number of difficulty levels and five brain-bending categories such as Mind Marathon and Mind Sprint that test the participant's brain power in areas including maths, logic, memory and analysis. Yep, rather than being a mere player, you are a participant, as BBA isn't really a game as such. Upon starting the game, new Academicals are invited to enroll using their own Mii. Dr Lobe (a talking brain lobe complete with spectacles, 'tache and a mortar board hat) will keep you up to speed with how well - or how badly - you are progressing at the academy.
Initially, the first test checks how big your brain is by measuring you in 15 activities that span five mental categories. You'll not only see your brain size, but you'll also receive a grade based on your performance. Alternatively, Practice sessions are a great way to improve your skills in specific activities. In Mind Sprint, two teams race to answer a set number of problems first. Using one Wii remote, one relay team of up to four players can compete against a student record book. Using two remotes, two teams of up to four people can compete. In Mental Marathon, any number between one and eight can strive to keep a winning streak going for as long as possible within a certain time limit. Once time runs out, or someone fails to solve a problem correctly, the marathon ends. The Brain Quiz is a party-style experience that spans the five mental categories, several difficulty levels, and adds five activities, making a total of 20. Up to eight players can divide themselves into four teams.
Big Brain Academy for Wii allows budding brainboxes to send and receive record books with friends who also own a copy of Big Brain Academy for Wii using WiiConnect24. Oh, and did we mention the talking Wii Remote function?
