Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3) Description

Guns! Cars! More guns! A mobile phone! Grand Theft Auto IV! Yes, it's the fourth 'proper' instalment in Rockstar's mega super ultra massive mega blockbuster GTA franchise. Do not expect the developers to let up. Players jump behind numerous sets of wheels as Niko Bellican, an Eastern European immigrant who has come to Liberty City to live the 'American Dream'. Yes, Liberty City has returned. It's New York City for developers who like not getting sued. You'll find Broker (Brooklyn), Algonquin (Manhattan), Bohan (The Bronx - not a Dragon Ball Z character) and Alderney (New Jersey) all present and accounted for. The action rolls out thanks to your (or, more likely, someone else's) mobile phone as you're doled out missions by various lowlifes. Cars will need to be stolen and people will need to be hurt. 'Nuff said. Of course, this is a GTA game we're talking about, so expect sandbox play galore for your inner anarchist who likes to pick his criminal dealings at random. Rockstar hasn't forgotten that this is the age of PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, so the game will come with a healthy dollop of online play to get your Eastern European teeth into. Liberty City needs you! Steal this game if you have to...

Grand Theft Auto IV for either 360 or PS3 is simply a must have game. It is in essence a living breathing city, full of life, laughter, pain, sadness, crime - life in general. The attention to detail is astounding, right from the restaurants, bars, theatres and comedy shows you can go to, to the internet and TV and radio stations. I am staggered at the amount of thought and work that has gone into this game, without even starting on the main meat of the gameplay mechanics. As any GTA game has been good at, you can just load this game up and have a blast round the city - quite literally, and have a great deal of fun doing so, without even advancing anywhere in the game. I've loved all GTA games for that, being able to play it for 5 minutes before going out of the door and still getting a massive amount of fun out of it. Not only that, but the game itself is just a fantastically told story. You are Niko Bellic from Eastern Europe, arriving in America to stay with his self-inflated cousin, who has basically painted a picture of perfection to Niko via letters and conversations. Of course - it's all a lie. The fancy life that Niko's cousin (Roman Bellic) mentioned was all a lie, and Niko soon realises this and decides to to change things, all the while getting embroiled in his cousin's problems and gambling debts. As you can expect, Niko gets quickly sucked in and involved with some very unsavoury characters, and the story snowballs from there until you are taking on the top dog crime lords of the city and turning them against one another. The story is filled with genuine laughter, mostly provided by Roman who is possibly the funniest and most believably lovable character I have ever seen in a video game. And of course, there are all sorts of unexpected shocks and twists to the story, which interestingly some will have different plot twists depending on your decisions. At some points, killing one character or another will force these plot twists, often with one choice representing a morally higher one than the other. It's interesting though, because sometimes, even picking the morally higher choice can end with an event that spells disaster. Lets not spoil the story, but just say that you will lose someone important to you, and it will come as a real shock. As with all GTA games, you start off in one territory of the city, and gradually as you advance through the people providing you with jobs, new areas of the city are opened until you have free reign to go anywhere. The great thing about it, is if you can see it, you can go to it. You'll have access to cars, bikes, boats and helicopters which can take you anywhere you need to go, and Niko will also have his trusty mobile phone on him which you'll be able to call your friends in the game with for missions, chats and dates out on the town. You can also take pictures on the phone and send them to people, sometimes when making a mark to be killed or whatever, and you'll receive calls and text messages from these people, calling you where you need to be. Hell, you even get SPAM text messages, just like you do on your real phone! The internet mentioned earlier is sheer genius. Rockstar have built an entire web of different tongue in cheek sites, some based on real-world ones, and they're peppered with inspiration and laughs if you sit and explore it. Try finding the Liberty City travellers guide, which give instructions on what to expect for Libertonians if they go abroad to different countries.... I nearly lost my lunch laughing so hard at that. There are countless others, and i'm sure I only scratched the surface myself. You can sit at home in whatever is your safe house and watch TV too. There are several stations with several shows to choose from, and you'll even see and hear adverts for these shows on the radio and on bill boards around the city, telling you when they're on. And if you check the time on the clock on your mobile phone, you'll see that everything runs on schedule. I've waffled on for so long here, but that's because GTA IV really has everything. GTA fans will already have it, but if you've never played a GTA game, this is definitely one you must try. It's a shame PS3 only users will not get the other episodes the 360 gets, but this is still one amazing must-have game.

You don't need to really read a review about Grand Theft Auto games, they are just quality thats all you need to know. The graphics are excellent, the characters are great and everything about this game is fantastic. The differences in this game to previous titles are your friends phoning you wanting to play pool, eat or go to the comedy club. Ricky Gervais in the comedy club is a good and welcome edition. Also you can find dates on the internet, browse the internet although most of the sites on there are just for show. All in all if you haven't played this i suggest you rent this asap or buy it, it will provide hours of entertainment even after completion.

The forth instalment of the GTA series hits the PS3, like a ram raid on a old folks home its bursts on the scene with lots of shock and awe. So much of this game nowadays is just overhype, I mean theres only so often you can go to a location to drop off a package and then it turns out to be an ambush! Oh No what do I do?? Well... same as I did in every other GTA game, Run! Graphics wise it looks good in HD but still you feel it could look smoother considering the hype and time they took making this. Controls are easy as pie to manage yet you can still never drive down a street at a normal speed and not smack into either a person or another car and some cars steer like a melting jelly. If you have kids who want to play this its a no no, where-as before they but violence in a conceiquence of the things that happened now they seem heart set on as much drugs and sex references as they can find, it could have been programmed by a pre-pubescent teenager? The missions are quite standard and the way it plays is more open thanks to being able to wander the city and get phone calls from every person and there dog want you to "stop by" and help them with a problem. A few new trings in the game are enough to make it different from the last but its not mindblowingly different from the other GTA games and does exactly what it says on the tin! good for a rental or a buy if your a big GTA fan

Ill start off by saying I was massivly dissapointed by this game when it first game out, it just didnt have the right feel and lacked fun. People kept on ringing me to do stuff, which is fine in real life, but in a game? Hell no. It also just had no joy in it. However as I played more I feel in love with it and couldent wait to get my next fix. I am not sure who wouldent have got this game by now, or who wouldent know anything about the details, so I shall not go into that, but what I will say is that the game has 50 hours + of joy. However, this is the ps3 version and is basically 1/2 the game the 360 one is due to all the DLC comming out. Get the 360 version and dont bother with this if you have both consoles, but if you dont, then this is still a great game and one of the best on the console.

I wasn't that impressed with this. I think it was overrated and nowhere near as good as I thought it was going to be. The graphics are good but nowhere as good as the likes of Killzone 2. The handling of the cars felt a little sloppy, but the music was excellent and very funny. Maybe I was expecting a little too much, but it just didn't make me want to keep coming back for more???.
