Based on the Dreamworks animated film of the same name, Over the Hedge for the PS2 takes players on an all-new adventure set after the antics of the movie. Players assume the roles of RJ, Verne, Hammy and Stella, who turn a suburban neighbourhood into their own personal playground full of traps and dangerous obstacles.
In an attempt to free captured friends and rob the humans of their beloved food, players master each character's special moves and learn how to use them to their advantage. Special moves at gamer's disposal include: RJ's "golf ball barrage", Verne's "spinning shell attack", Hammy's "Hammy time" which allows him to overcome foes instantly and Stella the skunk's "stink". As players progress they can gain new abilities that allow each animal to perform special combo attacks. To help players throughout the game, there are many hidden tools and various pieces of armour to collect.
The game offers 30 mission-filled levels in which gamers can switch between two characters at the same time. Alternatively, select multiplayer mode where it is possible to join forces with a friend, where gamers can go on a multiplayer co-op quests in order to fill their wagon with food - breaking through closed windows, fenced-in yards and laser-guarded homes, performing the ultimate heist to free captured friends.
Interacting with all the characters from the film, as well as various characters that are available only in the game, the adventure takes place in over 10 new locations that are not featured in the film, including the exterminator's lab, the sewers and the Wild Western theme park.
As an added bonus, mini-games such as "Golf Cart Derby," "RC (radio-controlled) Car Racing" and "Suburban Mini Golf" can be unlocked. Completing these mini-games wins various energy-filled snacks, more powerful weapons and other useful items that will help along the journey.
