Tony Hawk's Proving Ground Description

As of 2007, Activision finally has some competition in the realm of skateboarding games from EA's skate. It's just as well then, that Activision has overhauled the basic formula of the franchise and created what it promises is the deepest game in the series yet with Proving Ground. In Proving Ground, players will have some big choices to make. You'll have a choice of three routes to go down. As a hardcore skater, you'll be tasked with having a more traditional Tony Hawk experience, seeking out the best spots to push your skills to the limit. As a career skater, players will have to go out there and make a name for themselves to get sponsorship, enter competitions and make their fortune. As a rigger, it's all about D.I.Y.; putting together crazy set-ups to reform the terrain and push the limits of what you thought was possible. Of course, it wouldn't be a Tony Hawk game without a swathe of pro skaters lending their names and likenesses to it. As well as Tony Hawk, you'll find the likes of Ryan Sheckler, Arto Saari, Jereme Rogers, Daewon Song and Jeff King present and accounted for to guide you through new tricks as you progress. Activision has also upped the ante with the tricks you can pull off. Expanded Nail-the-Trick moves such as Nail-the-Grab and Nail-the Manual, Bowl Carving, Aggro Push, Skate Checking, Climbing/Exploration, Environment Altering and Rig-a-Kit have all been thrown in to sweeten the pot.

This game is difficult on the wii, but is of a similar standard to the other games on ps2.

The game's OK but I'm glad I rented it before I decided to go out and buy it because I'd probably be disappointed if I'd spent £25 on it. The controls take a bit of getting used to the in-game hints aren't detailed enough in my opinion and I guess it was made harder because the rental doesn't come with an instruction manual. As soon as I started playing the game I was disappointed with the graphics, I expected better especially for the 2nd Tony Hawk's game on the Wii. However once you start playing you tend to forget about the graphics and focus on the game play itself. Finally it's the same old Tony Hawk's game with one or two extra bits added to try and justify making it. I know I'm being particularly negative, some of you may really like it but I think I've just played too many Tony Hawk's games over the years. My advice is rent it first then if you like it buy it, but give it time, after a few hours you'll start to get into it. For the first hour I was ready to send it straight back but once I started to get the hang of it I was happy to play it for a few more days before it went back.

They can mold and shape their character however they choose - the choices they make and the paths they travel determine how they evolve as a skater. As gamers progress, they develop into any combination of three skater classes, acquiring attributes and skills of a contest-winning Career Athlete, a fast and furious Hardcore Skater or a creative maverick Rigger, who alters and modifies the world as a giant skatepark.
  • Create Epic Skate Videos with the Full-Featured Video Editor: Players can capture all of their sickest tricks and bails with Neversoft's new video editor to make their very own skate videos. Command the footage using a full-suite of video editing tools, lens modes, camera angles and effects to cut clips and combine clips, add a personal soundtrack and even showcase online to share with others or simply move up the leaderboard rankings.
