Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Description

Ugly monsters! Giant robots! Charming tin hats! Hooargh! Capcom's Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is the first big release of 2007. If you were wondering, the 'extreme' part of the title refers to the very, very cold environment in which the game is set. Quite apt for a January release, really. Set in the brutal frozen tundra of a hostile planet, the game pits players against giant, ugly indigenous creatures and invading nasties. You take on the role of Wayne Holden, rescued from a veil of ice with only fragments of his memory remaining. What he does remember is the slaying of his father at the hands of the monstrous beings. With only the Snow Pirates, the native Akrid, and the mysterious NEVEC corporation left on the planet, you must work out who to trust and battle for survival. Working on foot and with your VS (Vital Suit, or giant mechanical armour-type-thing if you prefer) you must navigate the world hunting for answers. In addition to fighting the assorted giant monsters and other nastiness, players must also battle the cold. By killing the Akrid, players can extract minerals from their bodies in order to stay alive. Lost Planet producer Keiji Inafune has claimed the game is his answer to Halo. Big words indeed, but with the development team behind Onimusha and Devil May Cry working on the game, Lost Planet might just prove a winner for Capcom. Lost Planet attracted a lot of heat ahead of its release, with the demo having hit the 1million download mark. Players will also get the opportunity to chill out online with a multiplayer mode that will allow up to 16 players to duke it out. There are four modes to choose from: Elimination (a deathmatch); Team Elimination (you guessed it - a deathmatch in teams); Post Grab (grab as many posts as possible); and Fugitive Hunt (which pits one player against the others). All very chilling stuff.

A+ Very cool game a lot like gears of war

After Dead Rising you'd think Capcom can't do any better but your wrong this is probebly want jamesriley said as this is in my view a level lower than Gears of War with fantastic graphics and gameplay.

If you liked gears of war then you will like this without a doubt, excellent graphics, makes up for the gameplay because it can get very repetitive. Its very samey compared to gears of war except you don't go for cover as much, big levels, fantastic scenery and huge bosses, 4 out of 5

This is a very good game. The graphics are fantastic, we are really starting to see what the 360 can do now. Some of the bosses are gigantic, check out the giant worm when you play this one. And the cut scenes play out the story nicely. And I also cannot fail to mention the cool robots you get to pilot in the game, they are real fun to blast things to kingdom come with, and some you can even interchange the wepons on, or change into another form in a Transformers style. There is good incentive to play through the game again on higher difficulty levels. There are tokens scattered throughout the levels to collect, that award achievements. And the good things is, the locations of these change on higher difficulties, and you have to find more. I actually bought this one, and I am happy I did. I only have a minor criticism, that is the action can be a little repeatitive, but its only a small niggle. Overall, a well earned 4 out of 5.

Great graphics the explosions and smoke effects are amazing although the game gets very repetative and the boss battles at the end of each mission are really annoying. Well worth a rental.

Very good game, graphics are amazing. Not normally a fan of capcom games. But I liked this one a lot. Was really good fun to play.

Good game but begins to get very samey. Graphics are immense but the achievements are way too difficult. The multiplayer is very difficult and hard to understand because it is so fast

Good graphics. Cool big Areas to explore. Ok Story line. The aliens attacks are quite cool. Very much a mission by mission game. What I would say lets it down, is that your moment is really slow and this is exaggerated by the HUGE environments that you have to crawl over. Also it takes a LONG time to set up centers which help you though the missions. These combined makes the game slow down so much, which can spoil the game. (Very much like in Cod3)

This is clearly a beautiful looking game, and isn't far off gears of war standards, but in looks alone. The game play is repetative and monotonous, and the "collect the heat off the dead" thing is nothing more than irritating rather than challenging. Wasting five minutes at the start of each level killed random objects to load up on thermal energy gets old very quickly. The controls are simple, yet very fiddly at times, and turning is slow and cumbersome. Good to look at, but no substance.

I couldn't recommend this. It has reasonable graphics, some nice set piece's and the gameplay generally is ok, but it has numerous things that add up to me disliking it. The menu's (and their background) are ugly; the auto-targetting frequently targets something you're not aiming at; the cutscenes are mend-bendingly bad with awful scripting and wooden voice acting; invisible barriers which theres really no excuse for in any well designed game, some which prevent you jumping onto the roof of a building you can easily grapple up to; massive clouds of smoke (which might sound like a nice thing at first) which frequently obscure your view so you cant aim when you need to. You may love it, but I didn't. If you haven't already played it, get Gears of War instead.

Great game, superb graphics and movie scenes. The gameplay is very good, some hard bosses to beat and some great weapons to use. In my opinion this is right up there with Gears of War. 9/10
