Superman Returns Description

Superman, as you might have guessed, has returned. And most impressive his return looks too. Players can now take on the role of Metropolis's recently returned guardian to protect the city from a plethora of evil lurking on its streets (and, on occasion, in its skies). In the past, Superman games have been a tad on the awkward side. Not that we can put too much blame on the programmers, mind you. Making a bevy of powers that includes flight, super-strength, super-speed, heat vision, arctic breath, x-ray vision (and a bunch of others we can't be bothered to list) work and play well is no mean feat. With the release of Superman Returns on the Xbox360, however, EA finally have a platform to work with that's up to the task. Superman Returns offers 80 square metres of playable landscape for 'Supes' to get to grips with, and it's littered with all kinds of nastiness to test your powers. And making use of the powers on offer is undeniably a huge part of the experience. EA haven't skimped on the 'super' front and offer a variety of creative ways to use your abilities. Within a couple of minutes of hitting start, you're fighting fires and cooling off comets with your super-breath, then blasting meteors out of the sky with your heat vision. Further into the game, players can mix things up to find new ways to stop enemies and save lives, such as freezing a torrent of water spraying from a fire-hydrant and hurling it at the baddies with super-strength. The sheer range of what you can do with your powers is astounding. Oh, and did we mention the baddies? Well, yes. But we can't help but mention them again. Expect - amongst others - Mongul (yellow-alien-warlord-type); Bizarro (demented-Superman-clone-guy); Metallo (giant-evil-robot-thingy); and of course the nefarious (yes, that's right, nefarious) Lex Luthor to try and give you a headache.

This game is PANTS!!!!!!!!!! I was so disappointed with this game. I shunned the marveloous Viva Pinata in favour of buying Superman Returns from HMV. I wished I had not have bothered. Although the game promises so much, and shows what the 360 can do with large free roaming play areas. the game is sooooooo boring. It just seems to be repetative fly from one event to another where you mindlessly beat the buttons to kill various minions. Interspersed between these fights are rucks with various bad guys from the Superman comics. After every chapter you are treated to a cut scene from the new movie, but the game has absolutley nothing in common with the film, apart from the cut scenes. One final moan is on the achievements/unlockables front. The achievements are to easy in my opinion. Also one optional part of the game has you trying to find and rescue 100 cats that are scattered all over metropolis, how rubbish is that? Seems like it was added at the last minute to pad the game out a bit more, I just couldnt be bothered looking. What an opportunity wasted. Overall game gives me the feeling of being rushed, or unfinished. Yes the graphics arent bad, and the size of the city is impressive, but the combat system is not very fluid and lacks precision. I just expected more out of the game. But hey I should have been more realistic, very few movie related games turn out to be good. My advice is rent it, it can be completed in a few hours of playing it and you will feel cheated out of your money if you buy it.

Zooming about the city is really good fun. but that's about it. the size of the game is massive it really looks like they took their time to get this right. the combat is just rubbish its some of the worst i've ever seen. Rent this game and have a bit of a laugh flying about you could soak up all it has to offer in a spare sunday

HOLY F**K this game is teribble, it's like EA has taken superman 64 from the N64 and given it better graphics but haven't changed the combat, rubbish

this is the worst game ive ever played and i thought EA screwed us with having to pay for missions on the godfather just proves EA are more interested in money than sending out decent FULL games

this is by far the worst game i have played on the xbox 360 so far, you basically fly to an area, beat up some baddies and then repeat, there are about 6 types of enemy throughout the whole game, its absolutely awful, DO NOT RENT THIS GAME
