Tales of Phantasia Description

Originally released on the SNES, epic RPG adventure Tales of Phantasia comes to GBA with its tragic storyline and tales of bravery intact. Tales of Phantasia's story starts when the mysterious Dark Knights wipe out the village of Totus in search of two magical pendants, items which are needed to awaken an evil sorcerer. Fortunately, Cress and Chester, two youths from the village, have the pendants in their possession, and are away hunting when they attack. Returning to find their village decimated, they swear vengeance and set out on an epic adventure. Tales of Phantasia combines traditional role-playing elements with an exciting battle system requiring both strategy and reaction speed. This battle system, featured in the Tales series since the game's original launch in 1995, allows players to strategically place and command a group of up to three characters, before taking direct control of the star of the game, Cress. Once the fight has begun, the player executes attacks and casts spells as they would in an action game, while the computer AI controls the rest of the group. The emphasis is placed on Cress, but a tactical choice and placement of allies can mean the difference between success and failure. Tales of Phantasia allows players to enhance and improve their characters in order to prepare them for the game's tougher challenges, much like any other RPG. As the player defeats opponents and completes challenges, experience points are earned, and accumulating a certain number will cause the character to 'level up', gaining more hit points and new abilities. As well as gaining levels, players can acquire new weapons and equipment to increase their statistics. In addition to the usual upgrades, Tales of Phantasia contains a unique cooking system! Gamers collect rare and unusual ingredients and combine them to create food and potions to help their characters in battle.

Battle in real time: The Linear Motion Battle System puts the emphasis on action as players attack their enemies without the use of menus.

New game events, dialogue sequences and other features enhance the adventure on this release.

Players can crack open the Monster Dictionary to view the strengths and weaknesses of the enemies they meet in battle. Players will want to collect data on them all.

Players use the innovative Cooking System to collect ingredients and recipes to brew up meals that restore their health and magic.
