Football Manager 2006 Description

Fans of Sports Interactive's legendary Football Manager series will be delighted at the debut of the game on the Xbox 360. The series is responsible for countless relationships breaking down, jobs neglected and the loss of hair. The 2006 instalment gives you the chance to manage from a selection of over 280, 000 players and staff in 50 different countries. All the information in the game is accurate to the end of the January 2006 transfer window. The interface has been revamped specifically for the 360. There are also exclusive Xbox Live features available for up to 16 players in both League and Cup modes. Therefore, you have the possibility can take your team online and prove yourself against the best managers in the world. Use new half-time team talks to motivate individual players. You can either use the Sir Alex Ferguson approach - the infamous hair dryer - or the Sven Goran Eriksson-style softly-softly approach to get your team to better their performance. You can shout instructions from the dugout with a new quick tactics option, and also interact with unhappy players to sort out morale problems. There is also a new snapshot page that gives you all the important information, such as fixtures, budget and various stats at a glance. Another new element to the game is that the actual height and weight of footballers is included in the player stats. This makes matches even more realistic because you can now really press your side's physical advantage. You can also gauge a player's form instantly with all-new player form and stats screens. If you are a fan of the Football Manager series than you certainly won't be disappointed with the latest effort. Say goodbye to the girlfriend, the job and the hair!

Ever since Domark released Championship Manager 92/93 on the Amiga, this football management series has been an annual purchase for me. Many weekends have been lost on Amiga and PC versions, trying to find that killer tactic to walk of with silverware. I was delighted that an Xbox360 version had been released. Although a High-Def machine would mean little to something which is basically screens full of facts and figures, the triple core processing power would greatly speed up the zillions of items of data processed between matches. What utter disappointment! The console interface is unwieldy, screens have less information on, and frankly, the screens just look a damn sight better on PC. It took me as long to set up my first team tactics and team selection for my first friendly match, as it does to play my closed season matches on PC. Note for SI for any future release - give it the same layout as on PC, and include USB Mouse support.
