Quake IV Description

Being a console owner, you'll probably not have heard of a game called Quake. A long time ago, a company called id brought out a game called Quake, in which you single-handedly had to defeat wave upon wave of zombies and demons, whilst armed with nail guns, rocket launchers and the like. The game picked up where id's own Doom had left off, further expanding the newborn first person shooter genre. Then Quake II came out, with more of the same gory blasting action. But it was further distinguished by its excellent multiplayer mode, in which players could roam mazelike granite environments under swirling orange skies. Even today, first person shooters are shaped by what went on in those early LAN parties, at the birth of rocket jumps, head shots, and mouse and keyboard control. The blank canvas of Quake II's multiplayer, and the modding community that grew up around it gave the game a longevity far greater than any single player content could ever have offered. So much so that when Quake III finally came out, it did not even have a single player mode in the traditional sense. The developers at id simply set out to create as high fidelity an engine as they could, packaged with an assortment of player skins. Since then, the company turned its attention back to their earlier, Doom creation, with the emphasis on the single player experience. The result was the terrifying and supremely polished Doom 3. They gave the languishing Quake license over to Raven Software. The people at Raven are now releasing their own take on the Quake universe. And using the Doom 3 engine, they've taken the franchise back to its own single player roots. Don't expect an amazing multiplayer mode, instead Quake offers a single player experience much more fast paced than its psychological horror sister, with more enemies, and hectic gameplay. Quake III made it onto a console, the PS2, and didn't compare favourably with the graphical sharpness offered on PC. Now the Xbox 360 puts it dukes up and gives PCs a run for their money.

Good gameplay, big weapons, huge enemies and combined with nice smooth graphics make this game highly recommended. Not a big Quake fan but this 360 version has converted me. Enjoy!

For those who like fragging, Quake 4 is for you. Non stop action leads you into a gameplay reality similar to that of previous quake titles and the engine's prime game, doom 3. Multiplayer is OK, though games are sometimes hard to find. Single player is a must and this game is worth renting to complete and move onto your next FPS.

Quake 4 is a very good game could have more playes online. this is very disapointing becuase the online is fun may not have good graphics 4 multiplayer but its very fun challanging and a blast isnt that what matters people need to play this online more often dont know what they miss! my only problem with this is it could have had a split screen multiplayer for xbox live and without xbox live also co-op would have been better otherwise nutting else i can say is wrong with it! my advise try this out and see what you think becuase in my opinion you could be missing a ver entertaining game!

good to play in short bursts, as the game gets tedious very quickly. the puzzles are just irritating as you just want to shoot, not go back and forth getting lost in all these different corridors. graphics are good, but are basically slightly better than doom 3 wich isnt much on the 360. it is quite scary in places, but not a survival horror or anything

I've seen better, but being a limited number of 360 games at the moment, its ok. I played in hard mode and was challenging at times. Definitly a renter and not a buyer. Weapons are good with some wicked upgrades.

single player is really good but does get a bit tiredsome after a while and mutiplayer is rubbish ,not enough skill just running round like a headless chicken hoping to get a kill plus is takes you ages (only managed to play 2 games within an hour ,stupid servers/no one playing) and its hardly worth it there should also be co op so a good game but goes stale in no time

Hmm,this game is putrid..i could leave it there, but i will qualify that statement. This is 2006,this is for the XB360,not 1997 and for the psone, maybe a bit harsh, but do we really want to run aimlessly down corridors pushing switches/finding keycards etc while Enemies with the AI of a white furry 2 month old dogturd charge unerringly straight at us on sight,my answer to that is no,not when we have Call of Duty 2 or even Far Cry Predator on our next gen boxes of consoleness!!(Now breathe!!).Plus ID/Raven should know better....
