Yu-GI-Oh! Nightmare Troubadour Description

Yu-Gi-Oh! Nightmare Troubadour brings a new round of dueling action to the Nintendo DS. Utilizing the unique features of the Nintendo DS, players will experience the world of Yu-Gi-Oh! on two screens with touch pad controls. Watch monsters rise up from their cards and battle it out on the top screen with amazing 3D graphics. Use the bottom screen strategically as it presents the card playing field in 2D and supports full touch control. Duel against your friends or trade cards using the wireless function.

Had I not played the actual card game several years ago, I'd not have had a clue what was going on when I played this game. It has a tutorial section but when it's all shown in text form, it's hard to be any the wiser. Tutorials with examples and tutorial matches would have made a huge difference.

I did really enjoy the game at first, and when I'd got to the stage of having a strong deck that I understood how to use, I enjoyed it furthermore... until it became clearer and clearer that the game really has no substance other than asking to you to play match after match, resulting in the inevitable - repetitiveness.

Other niggles include the sometimes odd Japanese to English translations (which, admittedly was more funny than anything else) and the fact that the opponents seem to be able to guess correctly the result of a coin toss pretty 8 or 9 times out of 10, which is obviously not quite right (yes, the game cheats).

I recommend trying it out to see if you like it. If you do, it's likely to be the kind of game you really need to own rather than rent, so that you can put it down and play a few matches whenever you feel like it.

WARNING ! Only rent this game if you are familiar with its concept. There are no real instructions as to what to do or when to do it. One for the purists only. Rent at your peril !
