Another Code - Two Memories Description

Nintendogs, not yet out in Europe, shows what we can expect from software exclusive to the Nintendo DS: unique games that use touch and voice controls rather than mere conventional buttons. The latest of these to be released in Japan is Another Code: Two Memories. Pitched as an interactive novel as much as a game, Another Code follows the adventures of Ashley, a young girl. Receiving a message that she is to be re-united with her long-lost father on an isolated island, she makes her way to the mysterious isle to find out what's going on. On her arrival, it becomes clear that Ashley's father is nowhere to be found. Alarm bells start ringing but she has no choice other than to explore the island. It's then that things start to get weird and as she searches for her father she finds herself involved in a dark and unpleasant plot. The game is very much in the vein of the long neglected Adventure genre. Taking on the role of Ashley, players will get drawn in as the storyline unfolds. 'Point and click' titles on the PC like Sam and Max were a rich and popular form of gaming at one time, but with the advent of the 3D revolution developers stopped exploring the possibilities of the style. Now with games like Another Code and Martin Mystere finding their way onto various machines, let's hope we'll see a renewal in popularity for these fun, cerebral, and above all accessible games.

This was the first game to be released for the DS that offered an interactive text-based adventure with puzzle elements thrown in. It has taken its lead from the type of game that used to be popular on PC's many years ago such as the Monkey Island franchise. It does offer up a challenge and if you are a casual gamer then it will have you searching the internet for walkthroughs in no time at all. But, once you get used to the way that the puzzles are laid out, it soon becomes easier to progress and the game can be completed in less than 10 hours. It does not have any real replay value and so this is a title to recommend as a rental only. Its different and the puzzles at times can be frustrating. Give it a rent and see what you think !

rather short but interesting narrative and challenging puzzles that use the whole of the games machine. really enjoyable

Twists and turns await around every corner. It's up to players to figure out the truth from the clues on the island. Trace Memory's rich story will appeal to young and older audiences alike.

As players move around the 3-D map, the touch screen displays a breathtaking birds-eye view of the action, while the top screen shows a first-person view of scenes and conversations.

To advance in the game, players must solve innovative puzzles that take advantage of the DS's unique features: touch screen, dual screens, mic and stereo sound.
