Devil May Cry 3 Description

The Devil May Cry series has become something of a staple on the PS2. Developed in-house by Capcom, the first game cast the player as Dante, a private investigator of the supernatural. It seems that 2000 years ago a demon rebelled against the devil in a bid to help mankind. Dante holds within him the ancient demonic power to repel the devil himself, who is rallying his forces to attack the earth once more. Charging his power as he went, the third-person action title saw Dante wielding his sword and twin pistols, Ebony and Ivory, with plenty of pleasingly balletic and violent special attacks, fighting huge and terrifying monsters in the bowels of Hell. This not being enough to defeat the very Devil, Dante also had to collect special weapons with elemental powers that would give him the powerful special attacks he would undoubtedly need. Devil May Cry 2 featured more adventures of the powerful demon slayer. All the old skills were present, supplemented by new ones including the ability to run along walls, flying kicks, and multi-directional shooting. Dante's Devil Trigger, by which he was able to control his supernatural attacks, was improved for the sequel, and the game also featured a new character, Lucia, whose special skill was with the knife. Now Dante returns in Devil May Cry 3. Or rather he already has, as the game is in fact a prequel, set before the first game, with an involving plotline following the clash of Sparda's twin sons. This time instead of being lumbered with the same weapons, players can customise Dante's weapons and fighting styles, choosing from a selection of firearms and swords. The elegant graphics and animations that characterised the game make a return as well, looking better than ever before, and the game is doubtless on the shopping list of many a fan of the Devil May Cry series.

DMC3 is what is needed to refresh the DMC series after the terrible DMC2 with the rubbish controls it was a simple on button press makes you do the biggest combo but in this game your fingers will feel broken after performing big combos. So if you played DMC2 and it made you hate the series play this superb game and you will love Devil May Cry again.

After the terrible DMC2 I awaited the release of DMC 3 eagerly and I'm glad to say that the wait was worth it. After a typically overblown intro relating the story so far (the game is set before the original) you are thrown straight into the action. Fans of the original will be instantly at home as you set about chopping up the demons facing you, Ebony and Ivory make a welcome return whilst the animation and texture work have been bumped up significantly; Dante moves with a pleasing smoothness as you rack up the combos. One of the major gripes about the original: the arduous weapon change via menu system has been refined to allow Dante to hold 4 weapons which can be changed between with the press of a button. This significantly ups the ante when it comes to combos. However it's not all good, the camera will occasionally get stuck in an area giving you a limited view of the proceedings, this was almost forgivable in the original but in the third installment it feels like lazyness on Capcom's part. DMC3 really is everything from the original honed to a beautiful degree, the challenge is still there while the gameplay allows a player to develop his own style with regards to the action. All in all DMC3 is a wonderfully pure action game that excels in the areas it aims at and stands out as one of the most rewarding action games on the current consoles.

The original Devil May Cry was (at the time) the greatest action game on PS2! The second however was AWFUL, so it was with mixd feelings i tried the third one and boy am i glad i did. Its got everything the first one had then some. Only problem is, like the first one, its too easy on easy and too hard (for a first play through) on Normal. But over all VERY good game!
