Summer Heat Beach Volleyball Description

Looking out of our windows in July 2003, it's difficult to believe we're ever going to witness any sort of summer here, never mind heat. Volleyball maybe... But the prospect of a 'Typically-British Summer Dreariness Volleyball' title doesn't quite have that ring to it. So it's great news that Acclaim are providing us all with some much-needed escapism, in the form of this latest sun, sea and sand romp. Inarguably inspired by Tecmo's DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball, Summer Heat basically brings the Xbox exclusive's raunchy take on Beach Volley to the PS2. Its concept is simple: players travel to various wild summer locations for a bit of two-on-two action (that's volleyball!), as well as partaking in a whole lot of partying. As far as stats are concerned, there are a total of 14 different characters to choose from, each in possession of their own specific attributes (!) and abilities. As well as this, there's also the option of a full character customisation element, which allows you to design your own volleyballer and modify aspects such as skin colour, hairstyle and accessories. The game's array of courses are located across 12 sizzling beaches, including Venice Beach Stadium, Flamingo Pier, Emerald Marina, and Silver Sands Beach. All the usual assortment of game modes can be found, such as Arcade, Exhibition, and Tournament, as well as a selection of unlockable mini games. Key to the gameplay in Summer Heat is what's known as the Super Spike system, which allows you to earn special moves, speed-ups, and unlock secret features as you progress. There's also the inclusion of a Spring Break mode that tracks player stats, unlocks hidden features and players, and allows you to travel to Spring Break. If the prospect of a nice British summer remains bleak, it might be a good idea to consider going on holiday. Failing that, take a look at Summer Heat and have a vacation in your living room.
