Blood Bowl (Xbox 360) Description

Who'd have thought you would see a sports management and game-play outing focused on the Warhammer universe? Games Workshop did in 1987 and now Cyanide Studio has gone and produced Blood Bowl the video game. Ready? Well, in order to go and play what is essentially an 'ultra-violent' (be warned) game of American football, you have to manage your team of magical creatures including Orcs, Dwarves and Elves, and get them into some form of order. The madness doesn't stop there, either. Remember, this is fantasy football with the emphasis on 'fantasy', so as well as training your team to literally slaughter the opposition, you can also bribe the officials. This isn't Quidditch, so don't be afraid to employ the services of in-game magic users to mess with the opposing teams as well. You can play Blood Bowl – as with any sports sim – againt the AI teams sent at you, but the game really gets going when you play against other human managers. You can achieve this via local multplayer over a LAN connection or you can use the power of the Internet to play other twisted coaches the world over. This places you in a league which you've really got to win using all the muscle, guile, 'cheating' and tactical sense at your disposal. In fact, you're probably best off beginning with the Career mode on which you buy and sell players (a good idea given that your roster can actually be killed in action) as well as organising strategies and learning the ropes. Once you've got the basics, then it's time to enter the 60-team league and rule.

Ok first things first....forget about the real time element of this game, if you are buying or renting blood bowl the game then you are a true fan looking for the re-creation of the board game without all the set up time and pieces being sucked up by the hoover as your disgruntled wife cleans around you and your mates. And in this instance it works...really well actually. In fact it re-creates the board game so well......you might aswell save your money and just play the board game. The things that make the board game great have been completely left out of this console re-creation. The chance to play your mate who has just popped round...GONE. The chance to paint the minutres how you want them to look....GONE (but on the pc version for some reason). A massive network of people and tournaments at any one time.......GONE (no-one is playing this on xbox live). Funny moments of you and your mates huddled over some rolling dice just waiting for that all important score and then getting and shouting to the heavens with joy that youve just won the dinning room world cup, which now means dinner can be served at last to your starving family....GONE!!! and thats the problem everything that gives this game character and quality had been stripped away to make a console game. If only they had asked 1 fan of the board game what to leave in and take away they would have made the perfect game!!! what a shame. still there is warhammer 40k space marine on the way and whats that on the horrizon...a 40k MMO....oh hell yeeeeaaaaahhhh.
